Latest technology in the vehicle

On-board Systems

Our on-board systems for buses and trams support drivers in their work and enable transport companies to operate their vehicles according to the timetable. An optimal combination of software and hardware components ensures accurate tracking of vehicle positions and reliable voice connections between the control centre and the vehicles.

Countless ebblo (resp. Trapeze) on-board computers are in use worldwide and convince with their easy installation, high performance, reliability, durability and simple maintenance. The on-board computers enable traffic lights to be controlled to give priority to buses and trams. This significantly reduces journey times, ensures that timetables are adhered to and saves resources, as block optimisation means that fewer vehicles and fewer drivers are needed to provide the same service.

We keep our systems up to date and integrate new technologies such as IBIS-IP and V2X so that our customers can benefit from their advantages. IBIS-IP allows the transmission of large amounts of data and overcomes the boundaries between proprietary systems through standardisation. V2X offers further improvements in terms of traffic flow and information exchange through bidirectional communication between vehicles and traffic lights.

IDR-f3: On-board computer as a communication platform

The IDR-f3 on-board computer from ebblo is the centre for information and voice transmission between drivers, passengers and the control centre. As a combination of on-board computer and router, it integrates a wide variety of components, such as radio devices and multimedia systems. In combination with a driver terminal, ebblo on-board computers serve as a reliable communication platform in the vehicle.

Based on the timetable and route, as well as satellite-based location logic, the on-board computer determines the position and calculates the timetable status. Based on this, drivers, passengers and the control centre receive information in real time.

The on-board computer automatically triggers many functions, such as stop announcements and traffic light preemption. Reliable voice connections to the control centre, other vehicles and other participants are the basis for smooth operation.

IPT IP terminal: Modern driver terminal for buses and trains

Our on-board computers support drivers in their work by automatically displaying all relevant information and operational instructions via the driver terminal for buses and trains. The IPT IP terminal from ebblo forms the link between the driver and our control system. It is available in 7‘ or 8’ sizes.

The driver operates the IPT via a touchscreen with an ergonomic and intuitive user interface and four individually configurable direct keys.

Important functions can be activated at the touch of a button, for example a request-to-talk or a priority call. This allows a voice connection to be quickly established with the control centre, with data transmission taking place via the available radio system.

Another tool to support drivers is the Navigation Assistant, a solution we have developed specifically for public transport vehicles. This navigation system for both roads and railways is particularly helpful for new drivers, in case of dispatch actions when deviating from the planned route.

WebVLU: Driver support and dispatching by smartphone or tablet

On-board computers have numerous interfaces and functions that are not necessary for every application. The ebblo WebVLU solution is a streamlined and cost-effective on-board computer alternative for tablets or smartphones. It offers the most important basic functions to support the driver, such as the location of the vehicle or voice connections to the control centre.

WebVLU can be integrated into the LIO operations control system with minimal installation effort. The solution can be used in regular service vehicles, but can also be used solely for locating service vehicles or temporarily deployed buses.

Multifunctional displays for passenger information in vehicles

ebblo offers multifunctional displays for showing real-time information in vehicles. These displays show passenger information in colour and high resolution, and can also play videos. As single or double displays or as extra-wide displays, they integrate seamlessly into the operations control system and complement the other components for dynamic passenger information.

Thus, passengers in the vehicle are always well informed. The following information, among other things, can be displayed:

  • Operational information such as current transfers, delays, disruptions or alternative routes
  • Non-operational information such as area maps, cultural information or advertising

Traffic light preemption and more with V2X

Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication is revolutionising the way vehicles interact with each other and with infrastructure. One key area of application is traffic light preemption.

Conventional traffic light preemption speeds up public transport, making it more punctual and attractive. This allows for higher mileage per vehicle and saves costs. V2X additionally leads to significant energy savings and reduces disruptive stops.

IBIS-IP: Services & Support for IP-based data transmission

IBIS-IP provides transport companies with a new standard for integrated on-board information systems. In contrast to previous communication via the serial vehicle bus, communication now takes place via an IP network using individual services. IP-based data transmission allows larger data volumes, offers expanded possibilities and, through standardisation, overcomes the boundaries between proprietary systems.
