Barrier-free travel on public transport

Mobility Assistance

For blind and visually impaired passengers, as well as for people with limited mobility, using public transport vehicles poses a particular challenge. They cannot recognise visual information such as route numbers and stop names, or they need assistance getting on and off.

Transport companies are now legally obliged to make their services accessible to passengers with physical impairments. The regulations aim to ensure barrier-free access to stops and vehicles. With ebblo Assist, ebblo supports transport companies in meeting statutory regulations.

ebblo Assist: Digital inclusion in public transport

ebblo Assist is an innovative passenger information system that enables blind, visually impaired and mobility-impaired people to use public transport independently. The solution combines a smartphone app for iOS and Android, vehicle hardware and a backend system to create a barrier-free overall solution – developed in close cooperation with the Swiss Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (sbv).

For ebblo Assist, the proven Trapeze mobility assistance system ‘INTROS’ was further developed technologically and supplemented with new functions. INTROS is already being used successfully in several cities, including Kiel, Saarbrücken and Schaffhausen.

ebblo Assist was designed to meet even complex customer requirements. Large transport companies in particular need powerful backend systems and their own self-service portals – and that is exactly what ebblo Assist offers. In addition, powerful vehicle hardware, a neural text-to-speech engine and open interfaces create the basis for greater inclusion in public transport.
