Dynamic passenger information

Passenger Information

For transport companies, passenger satisfaction is the top priority. Well-informed passengers are happier passengers – even in the event of disruptions or delays. That is why transport companies want to keep their passengers reliably informed at all times about any changes that affect their journey.

For dynamic passenger information, information is collected from many sources within and outside the company. This data is transmitted in real time to all desired media – to information displays in vehicles and at stops, as well as to any websites or apps via data hubs.

Our solution for dynamic passenger information bundles data from numerous internal and external sources and makes it available in real time – on all desired channels:

  • In vehicles and at stops via modern display systems
  • On digital platforms such as websites, apps or data hubs

This is how we create transparency, trust and customer satisfaction – for a passenger experience that makes public transport the first choice.

Always up to date: visually and acoustically

The on-board computer plays a central role in providing visual and acoustic passenger information. It prepares all data for multifunctional displays in the vehicle and external displays and transmits it to the devices – for example, data on the route, the next stops or connections, construction sites or disruptions, advertising or tourist information.

Acoustic passenger information, which is intended for the vehicle interior via the on-board computer or for passengers at stops via the external loudspeakers, is triggered automatically or manually by the control centre.

Multifunctional displays for passenger information in vehicles

ebblo offers multifunctional displays for showing real-time information in vehicles. These displays show passenger information in colour and high resolution, and can also play videos. As single or double displays or as extra-wide displays, they integrate seamlessly into the operations control system and complement the other components for dynamic passenger information.

Thus, passengers in the vehicle are always well informed. The following information, among other things, can be displayed:

  • Operational information such as current connections, delays, disruptions or alternative routes
  • Non-operational information such as area maps, cultural information or advertising

Online interfaces

Passengers often travel with vehicles from different transport companies. That is why it is important to ensure cross-company passenger information. We have integrated numerous standardised VDV interfaces into LIO to ensure the exchange of information with data hubs, timetable information systems and third-party control systems.

Using the VDV453 and VDV454 interfaces, a transport company can also see third-party vehicles in the control centre when service areas overlap, ensuring transfer connections and providing passengers with dynamic passenger information.

Via the VDV736 interface, incoming fault reports – for example, from external event management systems – are transmitted to our ITCS and displayed to passengers. Outgoing incident messages from our ITCS are also made available to other systems.

Announcements with AI support

Our LIO-Data data management system has been expanded with a text-to-speech function for neural voices, which converts entered texts into high-quality announcement files. This eliminates the need for time-consuming studio recordings for stop, route and destination announcements. Short-term announcements about construction work or events can be created directly at any time and in multiple languages. The attractive neural voices sound so natural and professional that almost no phonetic reworking is necessary. New algorithms based on AI deep learning enable this language experience.

Mobility assistance for blind, visually impaired and mobility-impaired passengers

For blind and visually impaired passengers, as well as for people with restricted mobility, using public transport independently can be a particular challenge. They are unable to see visual information such as route numbers and stop names, or they need assistance getting on and off.

Our mobility assistance system ebblo Assist offers them valuable support for barrier-free travel. The innovative passenger information system enables them to use public transport independently. The solution combines a smartphone app for iOS and Android, vehicle hardware and a backend system into a barrier-free comprehensive solution – developed in close cooperation with the Swiss Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (sbv).
