Case Study: Hamburger Hochbahn AG – V2X optimises traffic light preemption

HOCHBAHN saw the potential for innovation in Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology and wanted to use its advantages for its operations. Therefore, together with ebblo, it implemented a pilot project to introduce V2X within the framework of the “ITS-CUBE” funding project.

V2X marks the start of a new era in traffic light preemption for Hamburg’s public transport system: vehicles communicate directly with traffic lights, the transport infrastructure and other vehicles – in real time, bidirectionally and intelligently.

V2X technology provides real-time information on priority levels, traffic light phases and current traffic conditions. It thus replaces the previous analogue systems with fixed reporting points. V2X boosts efficiency and flexibility, reduces energy consumption and enhances passenger comfort.
