Video on accessible travel: Verkehrsbetriebe Schaffhausen relies on ebblo Assist

In Schaffhausen, accessible mobility has become a reality: Verkehrsbetriebe Schaffhausen (vbsh) has become the first transport operator in Switzerland to equip its entire bus fleet with our mobility assistance system, ebblo Assist. In doing so, vbsh is taking on a pioneering role and sending a clear signal for greater inclusion in public transport.

Greater Independence and Safety in Public Transportation

For blind, visually impaired and mobility-impaired passengers, the system provides better orientation, greater independence and enhanced safety when using public transport. They can plan their journey, identify arriving buses, trigger an acoustic door-finding signal, submit boarding and alighting requests, and have stops announced to them.

Intros ÖV-Radar connects passengers and vehicles

Users operate the system via the “Intros ÖV-Radar” app, which was developed by experts from the Swiss Federation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (SBV). With the support of ebblo Assist, affected passengers can access and use vbsh’s mobility services more easily. An important prerequisite for self-determined travel!

In our video about the use of ebblo Assist at Verkehrsbetriebe Schaffhausen, you can see how barriers are being removed and genuine participation in public transport is being made possible.

ebblo Assist is a mobility assistance system for passengers who are blind, visually impaired, or have reduced mobility. It supports the entire public transport journey from finding the right stop and boarding the correct vehicle to getting off safely at the destination. Users can identify buses, trigger door location signals, send boarding and alighting requests, and receive important travel information while on the move.

The INTROS ÖV-Radar app is the mobile travel companion of ebblo Assist. It was developed by the Swiss Federation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (SBV) following the principle of “by users, for users.” The app combines timetable and real-time information with direct communication to the vehicle. This allows users not only to plan their journeys, but also to find the right vehicle at the stop and receive support throughout their trip.

With INTROS ÖV-Radar, passengers can identify which vehicles are currently at a stop and which one serves their desired route. When the vehicle arrives, an audible route announcement and a door location signal can also be triggered. This makes boarding much easier and safer, especially for blind and visually impaired passengers.

Yes. In addition to supporting people who are blind or visually impaired, ebblo Assist also helps passengers with reduced mobility. Through the app, passengers can send a request for assistance or boarding support directly to the vehicle staff. This allows them, for example, to indicate that they need help getting on or off the vehicle. The solution simplifies communication and contributes to a more accessible travel experience.

Verkehrsbetriebe Schaffhausen (vbsh) is the first public transport company in Switzerland to equip its entire bus fleet with ebblo Assist. This makes vbsh a pioneer in digital accessibility and helps people with disabilities travel more independently and participate more easily in everyday life.
